We read about Abram (Abraham) from Genesis 12 to 23.
- Chapter 12 takes us through the 7 promises to Abram and Abram’s family moving to Egypt.
- Take note of what Abram says to his wife in verses 11-13.
- What happens in verses 14-16 because of Abram’s choice?
- What was the consequences to these actions in verses 17-20?
- Chapter 13 tells us how Abram is inheriting Canaan.
- Do you remember whose blood line the land of Canaan was created from?
- Chapter 14 tells the account of how Lot was taken captive and also rescued and Abram’s interaction with Melchizedek.

- We see this covenant confirmed many times in the next chapters.

Connect With the Word 
Today the thing that really stuck out to me while reading was Chapter 13. In chapter 12 Abram went to Egypt (a place that symbolizes bondage throughout the Bible) and had Sarai lie again about being his sister only. After the Lord protected them again from Sarai being taken advantage of, they get kicked out of Egypt and they go back to where they had started. The went back to the tent they had put up, back to where Abram had built the Altar and called on the name of the Lord.
He went back to calling on the name of the Lord after he tried to do things his own way. Abram acted out in fear of man, and instead of trusting the Lord, he lied to protect himself. He didn’t even consider what could happen to his wife, just that he didn’t want to die. But yet again, the Lord protects them. And Abram knew what he had to do….he had to go back to where he started.
What I learned about God today was how when he makes a promise – he keeps it and he doesn’t let our stupidity get in the way. God has a plan, and no matter what Abram and Sarai do – He is there to protect them and redirect them back to the plan. Can’t wait to see how this continues to play out.
The thing I learned about myself/man in general, is how easy it is to do things that look right, that look pleasing to the eye but hiding within are wicked and evil people. I need to stop and wait on the Lord to illuminate my path, not just look and go where things look good. The way that looks good is not always the right way. In chapter 13:10 Lot looked around and saw the plain looked good to the eye – it looked lush and well watered like the garden of Eden. Chapter 13:13 The people of Sodom (where Lot chose to go) were excedingly wicked, and were sinning greatly against the Lord.
I will work on trusting the Lord before I make big decisions – waiting to find out if there are hidden dangers that would possibly draw me away from God or harm my life or the life of my family. I will be more aware of what the Lord is directing verses what looks good to me.
